Own the Primer side of the mobile app end-to-end, handling everything from building new features and integrating APIs to fixing production issues and pushing updates.
When the team needed to get Primer in front of customers fast, took full ownership of building and shipping it as a PWA using React, handling everything end-to-end before the mobile app was ready.
Built and maintained complex multi-step forms across both the PWA and the mobile app using the compound component pattern, keeping them manageable, scalable, and easy to extend as requirements changed.
Hit a rough performance wall with a vertical calendar that rendered heavy SVG components for every day chip across 24+ months, causing 20-30 fps drops and blank spaces during fast scrolling.
Tried all the usual fixes (FlashList, LegendList, virtualization) but nothing stuck.
Came across React Native Skia at App.js conf, rebuilt the calendar with it, and got a steady 60 fps even on low-end Android devices, saving the team weeks of native Swift/Kotlin rewrite work.
Added infinite scroll to the calendar so it loads more months on demand without any noticeable slowdown.
Researched and evaluated offline-first architecture for syncing local data with the backend on reconnect.
Tried redux-offline but dropped it since it was poorly maintained.
Explored WatermelonDB's sync support next but ruled it out since it required migrating all state into its schema and initial sync was too slow for existing users.
Landed on TanStack Query Persist with SQLite, giving solid performance and exactly the offline behaviour needed without the tradeoffs.
Keep an eye on crash reports through Sentry, manage OTA updates via EAS Updates and Revopush, and write Jest tests to catch issues before they reach users.
